INCIDENTS, ACCIDENTS AND FIRST AID
Guidelines for Dealing with an Incident / Accident
1 Stay calm but act swiftly and observe the situation. Is there danger of further injuries?
2 Listen to what the injured person is saying.
3 Alert the first-aider who should take appropriate action for minor injuries.
4 In the event of an injury regarding specialist treatment, call the emergency services.
5 Deal with the rest of the group and ensure that they are adequately supervised.
6 Do not move someone with major injuries. Wait for the emergency medics.
7 Contact the injured person’s parent / guardian / spouse or other emergency contact provided on the medical questionnaire.
8 Keep the injured persons’ medical questionnaire close to hand for referral.
9 Complete two copies of an ‘Accident Report Form’. Give one copy to the injured persons parent / guardian or spouse, and hand the other copy to the club secretary, where it is to be securely filed.
First-Aid Kit
The Football Club must provide a suitably stocked First-Aid kit and it must conform to legal requirements. It must be clearly marked and easily accessible.
This First-Aid kit must be carried to training sessions, matches, tournaments and other activities that are run by the club.
If items are used from the First-Aid kit, then they must be replaced, so that the kit is always fully stocked.
The First-aid kit must be kept in a clean, waterproof container. It must be kept in a dry place and checked regular. If items become damaged or contaminated and the protective wrappers for sterile dressings are no longer sealed, then they must be discarded and replaced.
Health and safety must be adhered to.
First-Aiders
The club must ensure that there is a qualified First-Aider / Emergency-Aider at all training sessions, matches, tournaments and any other activity that is run by the club. This ensures a good code of conduct.
The First-Aid kit must be readily available for the First-Aider / Emergency-Aider.
Make sure that there is an emergency telephone available and that the address for the venue is known, in the event that the emergency medics are required.
All First-Aid treatment is to be logged using the ‘Record of First-Aid rendered’ sheets. These sheets should be kept with the First-Aid kit. This policy will ensure that all known First-Aid treatment is recorded and that the usage of items from the First-Aid kit are also recorded. When completed, the ‘Record of First-Aid rendered’ sheets will be securely filed.
